Ms. Foo Hai May

A Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management graduate from University de Toulouse le Mirail, France, Chef May is currently the lecturer for the Diploma in Culinary Arts at Taylor’s College, School of Hospitality and Tourism (TCHT).

Her key responsibilities include conducting TCHT’s Diploma in Culinary Arts, working closely with Chef Bala Murali, who is the Course Leader and the rest of the team. These include applying modern methodology in teaching and grooming upcoming young pastry chefs to master patisserie techniques; training professional chefs to help them achieve higher technical competency especially in Pastry & Bakery related field; and initiating new techniques demanded by the service industry.

In her professional capacity prior to Taylor’s, Chef May who has been working in the baking industry for over 10 years, specializes Western pastries who genuinely loves and fascinated with the intricacies of the discipline in pastry making. She began as a pastry apprentice in five stars hotels namely Mandarin Oriental, KL, Shangri-La, KL, Equatorial, KL and Sunway Lagoon Hotel, PJ and later venture into retail café-bakery chains, where she leads the entire team.

Year 2007 was her turning point in her career when she was attached to Pastry Pro, established confectionery ingredient supplier, as the sales & marketing representative where she begun to enjoy the process of sharing her knowledge and years of experience with top pastry chefs in town. Thanks to her unremitting efforts, she was given the chance to venture into the ‘world of education’, where she was offered a career in Taylor’s.

Besides her culinary career, she is also one of the active committee members in Chefs Association of Malaysia (CAM) and Malaysia International Baking Confectionery (MIBC). This will be the networking ground for her to build a closer bond from the professionals in the industry and students in Taylor’s in future.
