
Having graduated from the School of Hotel and Catering Management, Mara Institute of Technology in 1988, and received a Diploma in Chef Training upon graduation. From then onwards, he has been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and has served several international brands, such as The Hyatt, Sheraton, JW Marriott, Melia,Hilton, Grand Plaza Park Royal and today, reaching the height of Executive Sous Chef with Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur..
The hunger to attain in-depth knowledge in fine cuisine, which is ever so evolving, has brought him to many culinary stints and cross exposures in the international culinary scene. He has had associations with Culinary Institute of America, Greystone California, Melia Scott, Singapore, Grand Sapporo Hotel in Japan, Anton Mossiman Dining Club in Belgrave Square London, Imperial and Bristol Hotel in Vienna, Austria.
He has been awarded ‘Chef of The Year’ 2005 by Chef Association of Malaysia for his dedication and contribution over 19 years in the hospitality industry.The selection for the award was primarily based on his wealth of experience and the many success stories he has written along these years, to establish his name which has brought pride and honour to the organization he has served.
Zubir has been a keen culinary competitor for over 18 years and has competed in various domestic and international competition.His achievement include being awarded champion in Ist Malaysian InterChef 1992, gold medal in hot cooking, Food & Hotel Asia, Singapore 1994 and silver medal in hot cooking and cold display in Hong Kong Culinary Classic 1995 .He was Team Manager for Sheraton team to win ‘Most Oustanding Hotel Team Award’ Culinaire Malaysia 1999 and Le Meridien KL for two consecutive ‘Most Oustanding Hotel Team Award’ 2005 & 2007 Culinaire Malaysia. He had also bagged the Gold Medal at the 10th Penang International Salon Gastronomique 2005, which saw him participating under the National team category for Live Western Hotel Cooking Team Event.
Zubir was the Gold Medallist and Overall Champion of the MLA Australian Black Box Culinary Competition ( Malaysian Chapter ) for two consecutive years 2005 and 2007 and represented Malaysia in Global Black Box in Gold Coast Australia 2006 and Dubai 2007.Since 2001,Zubir was instrumentally leading Malaysia Culinary Team as Team Captain to the 6th.International European Competition, Pittental Hosweshel Austria in 2001, Food & Hotel Asia Singapore 2002, Culinary World Cup, Luxembourg 2002 and 2006 and latest Team Manager for Malaysian Junior Team to Asian Culinary Challenge, Jakarta 2009 and walked away as overall champion.
